Helping Our Kids Manage Emotions: Anxiety in Childhood and Adolescence with Charlie Orsak and Marian Flammang.

Anxious feelings, worries, or fears are common among children and adolescents. When it becomes extreme, it can interfere with a child’s overall happiness. This workshop is designed for people who work with children who have generalized anxiety, anxiety due to trauma and stress, separation anxiety, school anxiety, and all other types of anxiety. We will discuss general life events and biological factors that may invoke anxiety in school age children. This interactive workshop uses a variety of learning strategies, including lecture, discussion and group participation work, demonstration and return demonstration, and role playing.
 
Instructor Bios:

Dr. Orsak received his PhD in Clinical Psychology from Washington State University in 1994. He is currently staff psychologist at the Diagnostic and Assessment Center at Northwood Children's Services in Duluth MN. He was previously affiliated with Essentia Health in Duluth, providing evaluation and therapy services for children and adolescents in a variety of departments – Behavioral Health, Pediatrics, Pediatric Oncology, and Pediatric Neurology. He has a special interest in anxiety, trauma related, and obsessive-compulsive disorders.

Dr. Flammang received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Washington State University. She is a licensed clinical psychologist with Polinsky Medical Rehabilitation Center in Duluth MN. Over the course of her career, her work has focused on psychotherapy and psychological assessments with children and adults. Her special interests include yoga and meditation as treatment techniques.
